Talking us through the EP, OH? tells us: “The ’Masquerade’ EP can really be summed up in these lines from Seatbelt: “We’re all pretending anyway, we’re just pretending to be sane. To be normal as they say, well what is normal anyway?” There are forces at play in our societies that benefit from us changing our wonderful selves just to fit into what is “appropriate” for them. My question is: are these the ugly masks we really want to wear, and what good are they to us? Or is someone else reaping all the benefits from our failing efforts to stay in line? Would it hurt anyone if we just showed the world our whole selves, warts and all? These are the questions I am processing through the songs on my debut EP.”
It’s no accident that the multi-instrumentalist and producer Oskari Halsti’s new solo music project poses a question in its very name. Aiming to find balance in opposing forces, OH? marks the start of a new chapter for the prolific Finnish artist. A musical venture mostly written and produced by himself this is a pivotal moment for the newcomer.
Fully immersed in a renewed sense of purpose and self-assurance, Masquerade EP cements the rising musician as a significant name emerging across London’s contemporary music scene.
